In 1947, he began his artistic studies with the Oviedo painter Paulino Vicente. Félix received private lessons at Paulino’s home in Oviedo. He then studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Oviedo. During this stage, he participated in national art competitions and won first places in the provincial and interprovincial prizes and a second national prize.
He entered the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid in 1950 and studied there until 1955, with a scholarship from the Diputación de Oviedo. In San Fernando he was a fellow student of Antonio López. Both met at the Casón del Buen Retiro when they were preparing to enter San Fernando. Since then they have maintained a great friendship and mutual admiration.
In 1952, Felix won six first prizes in artistic drawing and sculpture, including the first prize in drawing «Carmen del Rio», the first prize «Alvarez Pereira» sculpture and first prize «Madrigal», all in Madrid.
